Facing Your Giants

Facing Your Giants

Today I finished reading Max Lucado’s book, "Facing Your Giants." The book is about the life and times of King David, son of Jesse, and his incredible faith and relationship with God as it applies to our lives today. The book read like fiction but the stories in it are either true stories from the bible or incidences in Max’s life. Because I’m not used to reading fiction the book was difficult to get into at first. Once I got it I was marveling at Lucado’s use of the modern English language and the American experience to write a book that conveys truth written about in the bible centuries ago.

Max Lucado is talented in his manner of description and the relaying of ideas. He uses both old Jewish culture and new American culture interchangeably to describe the life of one of the greatest biblical characters and ancestor of Jesus, Himself - David. I really enjoyed the stories and the way they were laid out in plain English making them easy to understand.

The life and times of David are very interesting to read when written by the pen of Lucado. David began his recorded history in the bible as a lowly shepherd boy who was later made King by the anointing of Samuel after God specifically chose him. David’s humble and God-fearing nature is endearing. His courage and love for his friends and God are inspiring.

This is not the first Max Lucado book I’ve read. His books are often translated into Spanish which makes them accessible to many people in North America. I hope that you get a chance to pick up this book. "Facing Your Giants" is not only fascinating it’s also encouraging and faith-building for any believer.
